Some
definitions:
Degradable Plastic:
Plastics in which the primary degradation
depends on any combination of light, heat,
stress and air.
Biodegradable
Plastic: A plastic in which the
degradation results from the action of naturally
occurring microorganisms such as bacteria,
fungi, and algae.
Compostable Plastic:
A plastic that undergoes degradation
by biological processes during composting
to yield CO2, water, inorganic compounds
and biomass at a rate consistent with other
compostable materials and leaves no visible,
distinguishable or toxic residue.
Recyclable Petroleum
Based Plastic - eg. PET: Plastic
Resins that are not considered "Degradable"
or Biodegradable/Compostable", however,
are 100% recyclable to re-use as plastic
containers, or other plastic products.
Polyethylene Terephtaleate
(PET) - Plastic Resin is a strong,
but lightweight form of clear polyester
used to make containers for soft drink,
juices, alcoholic drinks, water, edible
oils, household cleaners and other food
and non food applications
